Tomorrow is the 25th April, San Marco, and the day Italy celebrates and remembers “la liberazione”, the end of the Italian Civil war and Nazi occupation. It has been a national holiday since 1946, and the whole of Italy is enjoying the beautiful weather and the long weekend.
When a fixed date holiday falls on a Monday (or a Friday for that matter) it is known as a “ponte” or bridge and is a cause for celebration for school kids and office workers alike. A feature of ponti is always intense traffic so we are staying put in the hills above Florence, enjoying the tranquility and beauty of the Tuscan countryside.

Don't miss our new recipe featuring an ancient ingredient landing later in the week.
